The expert faculty

Chair

Mark Anderson is a solicitor and former barrister, who established his law firm, Anderson & Company, in 1994. His client are mostly technology-based companies and universities in the UK and Northern Europe. He specialises in drafting, negotiating and advising on commercial contracts, particularly those which are concerned with intellectual property. He is the author of several legal textbooks, published by Oxford University Press, Butterworths, Tottel and the
Law Society.

Presenters

Stephen Reese is a Partner at Olswang where he advises clients on both contentious and non-contentious intellectual property matters including patents, trade marks, trade secrets and copyright. He has significant experience representing those clients within the life sciences and technology fields. In connection with his life sciences practice, Stephen also advises clients on UK and EU regulatory matters within that sector.

Nicholas Bolter is a Partner in the London office of Howrey where he specialises in all forms of intellectual property, including contentious and non-contentious work involving patents, trade marks, trade secrets and confidentiality, passing off, copyright and designs. Nicholas regularly advises clients in the luxury and consumer goods sectors in relation to brand protection and brand enforcement. His contentious experience includes involvement in a number of cases in the High Court and the Patents County Court. Nicholas was recently seconded to a client for ten months as Acting Trade Marks Counsel for Europe.

David Stone is a Partner in the London office of Simmons and Simmons where he specialises in intellectual property matters, with particular expertise in branding issues including trade marks, copyright and designs. Over the years, David has worked with large and small clients in a diverse range of industries, including FMCGs, fashion, life sciences, agriculture and heavy industry, TMT and the arts. David is also a recognised expert in relation to Olympic-related IP
issues. A solicitor advocate, David also has the benefit of in-house experience, having represented The Coca-Cola Company as trademark counsel for Western Europe in 2003-2005, for which he received a special commendation.

Cerys Wyn-Davies is a Partner in the Outsourcing, Technology and Commercial Group of Pinsent Masons. She specialises in intellectual property, information technology and information law and has extensive experience advising major public companies, banks, universities and government bodies. Cerys has in depth experience of all areas of intellectual property, information technology and information law in a wide variety of sectors and industries including the technology, manufacturing, automotive and life sciences sectors.

Alexander Carter-Silk is a Partner in the London office of Speechly Bircham where he advises on intellectual property and technology matters. He advises suppliers and their insurers on recovering failed or failing technology projects, including large scale IT projects. Alex has significant experience investigating and reporting on the causes of project failures, resolving complex high value litigation mediation and arbitration. Alex leads the trade mark designs and brands practice, advising brand owners, product designers marketing professionals in respect of licensing, sponsorship and franchising of intellectual property rights and protection.

Sarah Turner is Of Counsel in the Intellectual Property Group of Lovells. She is based in London and is a member of the firm’s Life Sciences Team. Sarah advises on all aspects of intellectual property but specialises in patent litigation and the protection of confidential information. Sarah has a particular interest in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors and has acted for companies in these sectors in large pan-European patent infringement and revocation actions.
