International IP Law 'Back-to-Basics' Workshop
Course overview
This workshop is intended as a general introduction to international IP law and can also be used as a refresher course prior to attending the more in-depth 3-day Summer School International Intellectual Property Law on 4-6 August 2009.
This one-day workshop will give you the understanding and knowledge of the basics of international intellectual property law, including:
– Copyright and neighbouring rights
– Confidential information
– Trade marks
– Patents
– Specific rights
This programme forms part of The Cambridge Legal Summer School Series. The series has been developed to provide lawyers with a focused learning opportunity that takes place outside the work environment and allows them to benefit from being away from the daily challenges of their role, mix with colleagues from other organisations and concentrate on developing their commercial and technical skills.

The expert faculty
Guido Westkamp Dr. jur (Munster), LLM Intellectual Property (London), First and Second German State Examination (Munster/Dusseldorf). Guido is a qualified attorney and is a Senior Lecturer in intellectual property law at the Centre for Commercial Law Studies. He studied law at the Universities of Munster/Germany and London (QMW). Guido previously worked for German Legal Preparatory Service, working, inter alia, with German Television and international law firms in IT/IP law. He is Course Director for the University of London LLM course “Intellectual Property in the Digital Millennium”. Guido is an editor and author of numerous IP related publications.
Dr Gail E. Evans BA (Hons), Dip.Ed, LLB, SJD (University of Sydney) Reader in International Trade and Intellectual Property Law. Gail is a member of the Centre for Commercial Law Studies at Queen Mary, University of London. She has a doctorate in law from the University of Sydney, which was awarded for her work on the emerging constitutionalism of the World Trade Organization and the making of the TRIPS Agreement. Gail also works extensively as a legal expert, mediator and consultant in the field of intellectual property management in Europe and the Asia Pacific. Recently, Gail became a faculty member at the Duke-Geneva Institute in Transnational Law where she is teaching international intellectual property law.
