The importance of CPD is to keep professionals updated with relevant training, information, skills and knowledge to remain competent throughout their career journey. This continuous learning will also help to improve an industry as a whole.
Whilst CPD has existed for some time, the importance and awareness of CPD has rapidly increased in recent years as industry standards, regulations, technological changes and consumer needs continue to develop. Professionals maintain a CPD log of their learning and update it with the CPD training hours completed. Training providers should make available to individuals a Certificate of Attendance to attach to their CPD log as evidence of development once training is complete or the desired standards of learning have been met.
Responsibility of CPD hours recording is with the individual. They need to be aware of the CPD hours requirements of any professional institutes or bodies they are a member of to understand how their CPD learning should be recorded and what number of hours are required.
The majority of institutes provide their members with Continuing Professional Development requirements generally on an annual number of hours basis. These targets are defined by accrual of CPD hours through training, seminars & workshops, events and conferences as well as other structured forms of CPD learning. These CPD hours are sometimes converted to points, units or credits.
There are over 450 professional institutions, societies and bodies within the UK that require Continuing Professional Development hours from their members. For any CPD undertaken institutes expect their members to allocate these hours/points/credits accordingly based on the learning objectives achieved.
Individuals assess learning value and equate CPD hours in their Continuing Professional Development records. The majority of institutions allow members to choose subjects of relevance to them as individuals, a minority also require their members to seek CPD on a range of core subjects.
Each course on our website indicates how many CPD hours it qualifies for - but as a guide, most of our courses will accrue 6 CPD hours per day. Upon completion of your course, you will be able to download a certificate, detailing the course, date, and the number of hours.
