Strategic Management of Human Capital

A three-day In-house programme to raise the profile of the human capital role in the commercial arena; linking strategy, commercial awareness, cultural change and development of talent

Course Overview

This In-house programme will show how to create a well structured strategy to effectively manage the talent pool of the organisation and details how to communicate and get senior management ‘buy-in’. By highlighting the major obstacles that experts have already identified, it takes the role of HR beyond that of the HR Business Partner to the level of a corporate adviser in all commercial and company strategic decisions.

Who should attend?

  • HR directors
  • Group HR managers
  • Senior HR business partners
  • HR controllers
  • HR managers and senior HR professionals

Sample Programme

Day one

Module 1 – Understanding board level corporate and strategic decisions

This module looks at how to use commercial data through business case studies to realise the organisation’s corporate vision and how HR can contribute to its success.

Module 2 – Operating at a strategic level

From the commercial data, and looking at the global market place, this module identifies the external and internal forces that can affect or determine the commercial success or failure of the business.

Module 3 – Raising your commercial and financial awareness

This module takes all we have learnt about the commercial road-map of the organisation and looks at the business logic as to why these decisions were made, and how to develop human capital and your role as a business consultant to achieve these objectives.

Module 4 – Educating businesses into the value of the human capital

This module takes your new commercial knowledge and will enable you to challenge the traditional view from management and stakeholders as to the value of HR and its governorship over the human capital of the organisation.

Day two

Module 5 – Influencing stakeholders and key decision makers

This module classifies the behavioural skills required to raise the profile of the HR function within business. You will examine the pre-requisite approaches required when working on the relationships at the top, identifying the influential stakeholders and measuring the existing relationships.

Module 6 – Bringing the outside in: Research and external networking and its value

This module looks at how to follow the latest trends and success stories in strategic human asset management and how to communicate these developments to senior management and highlight the benefits to the organisation.

Module 7 – Driving cultural change programmes from the top down

The success of change in the business depends on two factors – the mechanisms of change processes and the human acceptance. This module explores how to integrate these two factors and how to get the management teams buy-in to make it happen.

Day three

Module 8 – Demolishing the HR Ivory Towers

This module looks at how to implement your strategies into the processes of the business effectively and with a sustainable momentum that will reap commercial and personal rewards for all involved.

Module 9 – Moving your HR team from reactive to proactive

This module concentrates on the leadership skills of the human capital manager and explores how to take your HR team from a reactive transactional focus to a proactive partnering approach.

Recommended Trainer

I had the pleasure of working with Jocelyn over several months in 2014, supporting the Professional Development aspect of our HR development Programme. Having participated in a number of modules delivered by Jocelyn, it is clear that her facilitation and coaching skills are excellent. Jocelyn has a breadth and depth of experience, that clearly shines through in her design and delivery of programme content. The fact that Jocelyn can draw on her past experiences really brings the learning to life, this enhances the experience for her participants. In particular, Jocelyn has a strong commercial and strategic focus that encourages participants to see the difference that HR can make within an organisation. I have personally learnt a lot from Jocelyn, and would have no hesitation in recommending her.
